The Irish in Film
A Complete List of Irish Films

 Title  The Fighting Sullivans
This is the true story of the five Sullivan brothers who served on the same US Navy ship in WWII at the Battle of Guadalcanal. Though told in a sentimental way, the film dwells on their youth spent roughhousing and fighting. It suggests that not one of them graduated from high school (this was not unusual in the 30's). Saving Private Ryan is based on another large Irish-catholic family who fought in WWII, the Nilands. The name Private Fritz Niland was changed to Private James Francis Ryan perhaps because his name sounded too German. Link to reviews Click picture
