 Title  Girl With Green Eyes
The girl of the title is a convent girl from the country who moves to the city looking to change her life. Her green eyes reflect both her Irish-catholic roots and her jealousy of the more sophisticated outside world. She wishes to shut out her farm girl roots completely to live freely and without inhibitions. Yet, the very roots she seeks to shed tether her from the life she wants. This conflict between catholic upbringing and fitting in, in the modern world is a common theme of Irish writers. Yet 1960's Dublin, with its hip, swinging rock and rollers, exemplified a very extreme contrast between the old ways and the new. Link to reviews Click picture
