 Title  The Secret Scripture
Here unfolds the story of a beautiful, young protestant woman who arrives in a tiny, coastal town in Sligo right before WWII. She is forbidden fruit to the local Catholic men. Her lover volunteers to fight with the British confirming local fears of where their sympathies lie. Left alone, she is left to the devices of locals who see her as wonton and dangerous. This is the tale of her plight and her fight to regain her life and her family. There are few films that focus on the difficulty of the Protestant in Ireland. And here it is depicted with such deft and sympathy that only the hard-hearted could not feel for her. See also: The Magdalene Sisters. See also: Cal Link to reviews Click picture
