Many Irish immigrants who came to seek their fortune in America found that not only were the streets not paved with gold, they weren't paved at all. They worked at low paying jobs and were exploited. In 1876, the Molly Maguires fought for better conditions in the Pennsylvania coalmines. They used sabotage and bombing to make their point.
