While the world changes around them, the Irish of this old quarter of Boston are trapped in the ghetto created as a refuge for the displaced Irish. Long ago when signs prominently displayed "No Irish need apply" the Irish stuck together in crowded neighborhoods and bonded together in political parties, unions, and yes, even in organized crime.
