This film epitomizes the difference in character between the British and Irish. Our Irish 'hero' is polite, generous, loyal and painfully uncomfortable with a lie. The Brits he encounters are rude, condescending and, in the case of the British army who come to rescue one of their own, incompetent. The 'strong Irish woman' in the film ruthlessly pursues her goal.
