The Irish in Film
A Complete List of Irish Films

 Title  Felicia's Journey
Few Americans know of the constant flux of Irish that 'cross the water' to England. The search for jobs is the main reason for the journey but there is a secondary, secret, reason to visit England. In Ireland abortion is illegal where in England it is not. Here, our young heroin follows her lover who has joined the British army for work. Her naïveté leaves her venerable to all sorts of exploitation. And, he must lie to his family and friends about his employment because bad feelings still run deep though Ireland was already independent from England for 80 years when this film was made. On the surface this is a film about a young woman left 'in-a-family-way' but underneath is the old story of exploitation of the poor by the rich, the Irish by the English, women by men.
