Title The Last September |
Based on the book by Elizabeth Bowen, who was born in Dublin in 1899 and saw, first hand, the changes brought about by the Irish fight for independence in the early twentieth century. The Anglo-Irish upper classes struggled to find an identity while the Irish rebels and British soldiers competed for control of Ireland. The Irish upper crust were a mixture of those who, centuries before, had left Catholicism and allied with the Queen of England and British gentry sent from England to occupy captured territory. By the 1920s, they had became obsolete, relics of a doomed era. |
