A Complete List of Irish Films
Title The White Pony |
The film is set in Ireland and filmed in Ireland, but is not very Irish at all. There are many elements of the Irish experience thrown in here including family loyalty, English/Irish rivalries, ancient myths and leprechauns. But it is the Irish love of horses that dominates the film, leaving all the other aspects of the Irish experience merely touched on and unfulfilled. The main character, Leah, grew up in England but is that why her Irish cousin is mean to her? Why is the Irish girl's father French? The Leprechaun, surely the best feature of the film, is however flawed: he is not as the "wee folk" in the old myths. No effort is made to represent Irish lore as it was passed down from ancient times. |
