The Irish in Film
A Complete List of Irish Films

Title  The Eternal: Kiss of the Mummy (aka Trance)
The old story of the Irish-American family visiting the ancestral home in Ireland and finding that those folktales from grandma are all too real has come round again. The films High Spirits and Wolfhound spring immediately to mind. Here, however, it is not fairies, ghosts, leprechauns, the Banshee or even giant dogs that roam the manse at night, but an ancient Druid, who after centuries preserved in the bog, rises again to suck the soul out of her visiting kin. It is true that the ancients buried (sometimes sacrificed) bodies in the bogs and that bogs have a remarkable ability to preserve the flesh, but I haven't heard about them coming back as mummies before. The subtheme here concerns excessive drinking. Until the bog-witch arose, I thought I was watching the Irish version of Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf. Link to reviews Click picture
